That is nearly three times higher than Statistics Sweden's (SCB) national increase of 4.6%. Vacant apartments disappeared in six days at the median. The queue at Bostadsförmedlingen now holds 894,592 registered seekers, with an average wait of 12.4 years for Stockholm city.

Since 2019, the average rent has risen 52%, from SEK 6,393 to SEK 9,704. The price per square metre has increased 78% over the same period, from SEK 107 to SEK 190. The OECD estimates that housing misallocations in central Stockholm cost the equivalent of 0.5% of GDP annually. Behind these numbers lies a structural imbalance that worsens each year.
